Taiga Christie is a director, writer and designer located in the Northeastern United States. She holds a BA in Theatre/Anthropology from Reed College and an MPH from the Yale School of Public Health, where she pioneered the use of community-engaged performance as public health practice. In addition to theater creation, direction and design, she works in community health and prehospital emergency medicine. Her belief in theater as a medium stems from a decade of study in theater for social change, Theater of the Oppressed, and performance as a pedagogical tool for community health. Her work is rooted in a nonhierarchical, ensemble focus, an anti-oppression lens, and a goal of fostering community resilience.
Taiga is drawn to projects that combine intricate character development, in-depth political analysis, and unique design. She works primarily as a director and facilitator of community-based projects, creator and writer or co-writer of new works, and lighting designer for engaging projects. She also focuses on theater safety and occupational health and safety for artists, with emphasis on sexual assault and harassment prevention in the theater.
